Hillary Clinton praises Demi Lovato for ’empowering’ LGBT community
Following her acceptance of the Vanguard award at the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, Demi Lovato has shared a private note on social media, sent to her by Hillary Clinton before receiving the honour.
In a post on her Instagram page, the pop star shared the message, “Just before the #glaadawards saturday I got this amazing and thoughtful message from an equally amazing woman, @HillaryClinton.”
In the note from the Democratic presidential candidate, Lovato was commended for amplifying “the voices and stories of the LGBT community.”
“Through your music, you continue to empower young Americans to be themselves, to love themselves, and to always believe in the power of kindness”, Clinton said.
“We all deserve to live with dignity – whether we are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or an ally – and I remain so grateful for the example you’ve set and the messages you’ve shared to promote equality and acceptance for all.”
Presented by friend and peer Nick Jonas, the ‘Really Don’t Care’ singer was awarded for her advocacy for acceptance of the LGBT community with the Vanguard Award, which as explained by GLAAD is awarded to “media professionals who have made a significant difference in promoting equality and acceptance.”
Having previously expressed her intentions to Vote for Hillary, Lovato is delighted that the support is mutual. “I’m so humbled that she has my back as I have hers… #ImWithHer”
