How To Get Away With Murder
actress Aja Naomi King has shot down critics of the show’s gay sex scenes.
Last month (January), comedian Billy Crystal argued that the media’s portrayal of gay sex scenes is becoming ” a little too much” for him, going on to say that he doesn’t want it “shoved” in his face. Find out more here.
In a new interview, King – who plays Michaela Pratt on the popular ABC drama – has argued that the idea a gay sex scene can be ‘too much’ is “just ridiculous”.
“That idea [of gay sex scenes being “too much”] is just ridiculous,” she told Instinct. “When we do these shows, we’re looking at human beings having human lives. And in human lives there are people who don’t have sex and do have sex, people that are in loveless and happy marriages — that’s all that is being put out there for our audiences to consume.”
“There’s no agenda. This is a reflection of the world. It’s normal — this is our normal world, where people have lives and sometimes those lives involves sex,” she added.
Meanwhile, executive producer Shonda Rhimes recently spoke out in defence of the racy scenes involving Jack Falahee’s character, openly gay Law student Connor Walsh, arguing that the show has “no gay scenes, just scenes with people in them”. Read more here.
