star Sally Farmiloe has died at the age of 60.

The actress, who was born in Capetown, South Africa but described herself as a “real English rose”, passed away on Monday (July 28) following a long battle with cancer, her spokeswoman, Charlotte Ellis, confirmed.

She played Dawn in the 1980s BBC drama, and was also known for having an affair with Lord Jeffrey Archer prior to his conviction for perjury in 2001.

Farmiloe was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, and was told she had untreatable secondary tumours in her liver and bones last July.

Ellis said: “Sally passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, yesterday 28th July, after a drawn out battle with cancer. She fought the illness with extraordinary courage, raising money for cancer charities such as Yes to Life, Against Breast Cancer and the Royal Marsden’s Research Fund along the way.

“Sally was a warm and caring woman who not only raised her own daughter Jade with whom she had a very close relationship until the end, but who also brought up the daughter of her best friend who died prematurely.”

As well as appearing in Howards’ Way, Farmiloe also worked as a model, and later published her own health book Sensual Pleasures and the Art of Morphing Into a Health Goddess.
