Iconic LGBT venue Ku marks 20 years in London
The Ku Group has launched its 20th anniversary campaign, celebrating 20 years since owner Gary Henshaw opened the first Ku Bar at 75 Charing Cross Road – way back on December 8, 1995.
Since its first venue, Ku moved to it’s now flagship place next to Leicester Square, and has gone on to open Ku Soho, KuKlub, She Soho dedicated lesbian venue and most recently The Light Lounge, a boutique cocktail bar.
“From my very first manageress Emma, to the most recent bar back Gabriel, it’s the staff that make Ku a success. If you don’t like working at Ku you quickly leave,” says Henshaw.
“My staff love their job, they love the brand and enjoy the team spirit that runs through the entire company. From the management, bar staff, bar backs and security to the cellar boys and office team they enjoy their job and are very proud of The Brand. This comes across to our customers and makes their experience more enjoyable.
“Unusually in this business we have many long term staff and almost all of the managers have worked their way up. My business manager Scott, was a Ku Bar Boy 10 years ago.”
Ku Bar will be holding a pair of celebrations in the coming weeks to mark the milestone:
World AIDS Day event – Tuesday December 1
An annual tradition for Ku, with a charity auction hoping to raise £25,000 for The Food Chain. A great event for Soho where Ku auction donated lots from many partnered companies and brands…
As well as auctioning The Ku Bar Boys for a champagne date!
KU20 Celebration – Saturday December 5
Ku will be bringing out all the bells and whistles for their big birthday night celebration, showcasing memories from the last 20 years, we’ll also show what is Ku NOW, and what is Ku to come.
Expect international Guest DJs, celebrity hosts, free bubbly… and the Ku Bar Boys.
