Iggy Azalea says no to Rita Ora’s ‘Lady Marmalade’ with Miley and Charli XCX

By Will Stroude

Rita Ora has been shot down by both Iggy Azalea and the world at large after proposing a revitalised version of Lady Marmalade.

Ora told The Sun earlier this week that covering the classic diva number had long been a “goal” of hers, and that she wanted to create a 2015 edition with fellow pop stars Charli XCX, Miley Cyrus and Iggy Azalea. Originally recorded by US girl group Labelle in 1975, Lady Marmalade was famously covered by Lil’ Kim, Mya, Christina Aguilera and Pink for the Moulin Rogue soundtrack in 2001 (and before that, our personal fave – All Saints’ 1998 cover).

Ora told The Sun: “I’m trying to round up the troops. I think it would be me, Miley, Charli XCX – she’d be fun – and Iggy.”

Sadly (or not, as the case may be) Iggy doesn’t seem to agree, despite previously collaborating with Rita on last year’s Black Widow.

“Please leave me out of the whole ‘Lady Marmalade’ conversation,” the Aussie rapper wrote on Twitter. “I have nothing to do with ritas [sic] ideas & agree it should be left alone.

“Thanks.”

Don’t worry Iggy, it would seem the rest of the world is with you…
