Is Australia’s epic Eurovision song a potential winner?

By Ben Kelly

Dami Im has unveiled the song with which she will represent Australia at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, and it’s a corker.

‘Sound of Silence’ is a huge power ballad, with thumping drums and a catchy chorus, reminiscent of Jordin Sparks’ ‘Battlefield’.

Dami, who won The X Factor in Australia 2013, was selected to represent the country this year, after their first ever appearance at Eurovision in 2015 saw them hit a respectable Top 5 position, with Guy Sebastian’s urban-pop song ‘Tonight Again’.

Judges said they selected Dami, “as the perfect artist to capture Europe’s attention with her unique personal style and show-stopping voice; an artist who is ready to showcase our musical talent to the world.”

She will perform the song, written and produced by DNA, at the semi finals in Stockholm in May.

Born in South Korea, Dami moved to Brisbane, Australia with her family when she was 9 years old, and enjoys a huge following in both countries, as well as in China, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Meanwhile the UK’s entry Joe aand Jake have received a reassuring vote of confidence after landing a record deal with Sony Music ahead of the competition.
