A range of It’s A Sin-inspired T-shirts emblazoned with the word ‘la’ have made over £500,000 for HIV charity Terrence Higgins Trust.

‘La’ was a catchphrase favoured by Ritchie and co. in this year’s hit Channel 4 show, about a group of friends living in London during the ascent of the HIV and Aids crisis.

The t-shirts were created by Philip Normal, the Mayor of Lambeth, and over 32,000 had been sold by July.

“Beyond my wildest dreams”

Normal, who lives with HIV, said (as per Metro) “[It’s] just beyond my wildest dreams” adding he thought he’d “only sell a couple of T-shirts.”

He continued: “I’m so grateful to the cast and crew of It’s A Sin for creating this moment for us to talk about HIV in the UK and I want to thank everyone who has bought a t-shirt and helped us raise such a phenomenal amount of money for the Terrence Higgins Trust and their vital work to get us to no new HIV cases by 2030.”

It’s A Sin creator Russell T Davies said that he “couldn’t be more proud of the fact that one of the many great legacies of this show has been to raise so much money for Terrence Higgins Trust.”

Celebrities photographed in the t-shirt TV personalities like Phillip Schofield, Ranj Singh, and Amanda Holden.

The miniseries was watched by over 18.9 million viewers within its first few months on the broadcaster’s viewing platform.

THT said at the time that, as a result of the show, HIV tests were ordered during National HIV Testing Week at faster rate than ever before.
