A long forgotten audition clip from It’s A Sin star Callum Scott Howell is finally getting the attention it deserves.
The actor of course rose to prominence as shy and retiring Colin on Russell T Davies’ hit Aids drama – but it wasn’t his first shot at fame.
The star was first seen on BBC One talent show Let It Shine, where he sang for judges Garyl Barlow, Martin Kemp, Dannii Minogue and Amber Riley.
‘It’s like there’s a country next to England and that’s where I’m from’
Performing ‘You’ll Be Back’ from musical Hamilton, the star sang flawlessly after engaging in banter with Glee star Amber over the whereabouts of Wales.
“It’s like there’s a country next to England and that’s where I’m from!” the rising star explains.
Spoiler alert: Amber knows where Wales is. And she evidently found Callum adorable, like the rest of us!
Callum actually made it to the final 40 of the competition, but pulled out before the live finals after landing a role in the West End musical She Loves Me.
He’s since gone on to bigger and better things – acting alongside showbiz veteran Neil Patrick Harris in IAS.
Speaking to Attitude last month, Callum said: “I was told Neil Patrick Harris was playing Henry and I think I was literally like ‘That’s a lie, that’s bullsh*t’. I would never have imagined that Neil would have played the character.
“But it’s what Russell does, Russell loves the shock factor. Neil flew in a couple of days before we shot our scenes together and we met in Manchester and it was just amazing, we got along so well.
“I messaged him yesterday – he’s putting his big tree up right now for Christmas and I said ‘bloody hell Neil, that’s a big one!'”
