Jack O’Connell to play Alexander McQueen in upcoming biopic

Jack O’Connell, best known for his work in Unbroken and Skins, will take on the role of the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen in a new biopic, the BBC reports.
The film, which is still unnamed, is set to be based on a 2015 biography of McQueen, titled Blood Beneath the Skin. It will focus on the run up to McQueen’s 2009 autumn/winter show, a retrospective celebration of the designer’s career. The collection, named Horn of Plenty, was his final autumn/winter show – he killed himself the following year, the day before his mother’s funeral.
Discussing the inspiration for the film, Pathé, the film’s distributor, said: “In 2009 Alexander McQueen put on one of his greatest shows – an extravagantly beautiful retrospective go his designs.
“It was a show that he dedicated to his mother and one in which he tried to make sense of his life and art.
“The film explores McQueen’s creative process in the six months leading up to the show, the laughter that came easily with his family and friends, and the pressure that came with the relentless demands of the fashion industry. The films is a celebration of a visionary genius whose designs transcended fashion to become art.”
Filming will kick off next spring.
