Jake Gyllenhaal to produce and star in a movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Fun Home.
Based on Alison Bechdel’s semi-autobiographical 2006 graphic memoir of the same name, the musical tells the story of Bechdel’s discovery of her own sexuality, her relationship with her gay father and attempts to unlock mysterious surrounding his life.
The production was the first Broadway musical with a lesbian protagonist and was adapted by Lisa Kron and Jeanine Tesori.
Last week, Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye revealed that the Brokeback Mountain star will be producing and starring in the production as the gay father.
Baz tweeted: “Breaking: #JakeGyllenhaal production company developing film of @TheTonyAwards winning musical #FunHome by @KronLisa & @JeanineTesori based on @AlisonBechdel’s memoir.
“#SamGold to direct. Gyllenhaal to play Bruce Bechdel, Ms Bechdel’s father.”
