Jake Shears to star in ‘Bent’ stage revival

Jake Shears is set to make his major acting debut in a stage revival of Bent.
The Scissor Sisters frontman and former Attitude cover star will star in an LA revival of Martin Sherman’s 1979 theatre classic, about a group of gay men who attempting to survive persecution in Nazi Germany.
The singer will play 1930s Berliner and gay man Max, in a role made famous by Sir Ian McKellen in London’s West End, and later tackled by Clive Owen in the 1997 film adaptation.
Shears confirmed news of his casting on Instagram, saying he was “so happy” to be a part of the “incredible” revival. The 36-year-old will also compose the music for his character’s song Streets of Berlin, which was written by Sherman.
Directed by Moises Kaufman, Bent will open July 26 and run until August 23 at the Mark taper Forum in Los Angeles.
