James Franco set to play gay activist Michael Glatze in biopic

James Franco is set to play former gay activist Michael Glatze in a new biopic.
The film will be produced by Good Will Hunting‘s Gus Van Sant, who previously worked with Franco on 2008’s Milk.
Glatze was the co-founder of Young Gay America and a strong advocate for gay rights, before revealing denouncing homosexuality and turning to religion after a health scare in recent years. He married a woman in 2013.
The film is set to begin filming in New York City in June, according to the New York Post.
Franco has played several gay roles in the past, including Scott Smith in Milk and Beat Generation writer Allen Ginsberg in 2010’s Howl.
He also directed, produced and starred in Interior. Leather Bar. last year, which reimagines 40 minutes of banned footage from 1980 film Cruising.
Franco is currently starring in Of Mice and Men on Broadway alongside Bridesmaids actor Chris O’Dowd.
