JK Rowling says there is a ‘sexual dimension’ in Dumbledore and Grindelwald’s relationship

JK Rowling has shed some light on the relationship between Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald.
It’s been known since the Harry Potter days that the headteacher of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry was gay, but fans were left disappointed after the Fantastic Beasts franchise failed to portray their relationship.
Director David Yates confirmed that the Dumbledore’s sexuality was not ‘explicitly revealed’ in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald but despite the two characters not sharing any screen time, there was a definite relationship hinted.
Now, in a feature on the Blu-ray of the film – which is set for release on March 18 – the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts author has shed light on the two wizards relationships and confirms there is a ‘sexual dimension’.
She said: “Their relationship was incredibly intense. It was passionate, and it was a love relationship.
“But as happens in any relationship, gay or straight or whatever label we want to put on it, one never knows really what the other person is feeling. You can’t know, you can believe you know.
“So I’m less interested in the sexual side – though I believe there is a sexual dimension to this relationship – than I am in the sense of the emotions they felt for each other, which ultimately is the most fascinating thing about all human relationships.”
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is out as a digital download now and will be released on 4K, Blu-ray, 3D and DVD on March 18.
