Joe McElderry has won The Jump.
The former X Factor champion took on investigative reporter Donal MacIntyre and comedian Marcus Brigstocke in the final of Channel 4’s winter sports contest tonight (February 3).
McElderry won the final’s opening event, the ski cross, trailed by MacIntyre in second place. Brigstocke failed to finish and was duly eliminated from the competition.
McElderry then went head-to-head with MacIntyre in the live ski jump in a duel to crown the ultimate winner. He leaped an impressive 15.0m and 17.5m to McIntyre’s 12.0m and 13.5m, sealing his victory in comfortable fashion.
“I can’t believe it! Everything’s just happened so fast!” McElderry told host Davina McCall as his victory sank in.
McElderry, originally a stand-in, only became a contestant on The Jump last Tuesday (January 28) when fashion journalist Henry Conway broke a bone during training, forcing him to pull out.
McElderry released his fourth and most recent album, Here’s What I Believe, in 2012 and saw it debut at Number Eight on the UK’s Official Albums Chart. He is due to embark on a 50-date UK tour from March to June this year.
Attitude.co.uk‘s resident agony aunt, Sinitta, was also a competitor on The Jump and finished ninth after being eliminated last Wednesday (January 29)
