JoJo’s back, with new album and single on the way

By Will Stroude

Pop fans rejoice: JoJo’s first studio album in nearly a decade is almost here.

The 24-year-old – who first shot to fame in 2004 aged just 13 with her hit debut single Leave (Get Out) – revealed on Twitter earlier this week (July 27) that a new record is well on its way, with the first single to drop later in the year.

Teasing fans on the a social media site, the former pop starlet wrote: “My ex is married and having a baby. I’m over here married to MUSIC and pregnant with this ALBUM.”

After re-tweeting a fan who replied saying it sounds like the “due date is near”, JoJo confirmed that the first single from the new record will be out within months.

JoJo has scored two UK Top 40 Albums, with her eponymous debut LP in 2004, and 2006’s The High Road, which spawned hit single Too Little Too Late.

Sadly, she’s been stuck in legal and musical limbo ever since: Her long-awaited third studio album – originally entitled Jumping Trains – was eventually scrapped by her record label, who prevented her from releasing any new music. As she’d not officially been dropped however, she was unable to sign a new contract elsewhere.

She did manage to put out a series of mixtapes and EPs independently – which included some stone-cold bangers, it must be said – but she eventually sued her label in 2013, where they settled out of court. She went on to join Atlantic Records early last year.

Here’s hoping the new music does justice to a shoulda-been career that was tragically cut short by those cruel industry execs…
