The full cast announcement for a one-off, script in hand performance of Alexi Kaye Campbell’s The Pride has been announced (and you can get your tickets here).
Directed by Aran Cherkez, which will be rounding off Pride month on 27 June at The Fortune Theatre, the play will feature a flurry of performers from the world of the stage, TV and film.
Heading The Pride’s central love triangle, Jordan Luke Gage and Lauryn Redding take on the roles of Philip and Sylvia alongside BAFTA and Olivier nominee Omari Douglas (of It’s A Sin fame) in the role of Oliver.
The Pride alters between 1958 and 2008 in its tale of love against the background of changing attitudes towards homosexuality, the past and present collide in an intimate exploration of identity and sexual liberation as the play’s central trio navigates repression and deception.
In 1958, Philip is in love with Oliver, but married to Sylvia. However, in 2008 Oliver is addicted to sex with strangers while Sylvia loves them both.
Ambassador Theatre Group has announced Daniel Bailey, Michelle Tiwo, and Josh-Susan Enright will complete the company.
This performance of The Pride also celebrates 50 years since the UK’s first Gay Pride Rally in the lead up to 2022’s Pride in London on 2 July.
Creative Learning Producer Conor Hunt notes the diversification of who occupies theatre spaces and who sees theatre as a space is integral to the Creative Learning programmes at ATG: “As we celebrate 50 years since the first UK Gay Pride Rally, we can’t wait to bring The Pride to The Fortune Theatre and put London’s Queer community front and centre on one of our West End stages.’’
This performance of The Pride follows the play’s revival at Trafalgar Studios in 2013 and the critically acclaimed premiere at the Royal Court Theatre which won a Laurence Olivier Award under the direction of Jamie Lloyd.
Tickets for the one-off, script in hand performance of The Pride at The Fortune Theatre on 27 June are now available here.
