Josh O’Connor and Francis Lee are to reunite for a new queer horror movie.
The Crown actor Josh first worked with Francis on 2017’s critically-acclaimed God’s Own Country, about two farmers who fall in love.
The news follows the release of the new Kate Winslet-starring film Ammonite, directed by Francis and focusing on a fictional love affair between 19th-century paleontologist Mary Anning and another woman.
“Class and queerness”
Francis briefly discussed his upcoming project in a recent interview with Esquire, with editor Alex Blimes revealing in his article that the film’s screenplay will be adapted from an unnamed novel.
Writes Blimes: “It’s a horror movie with strong elements of ‘class and queerness'”, about a sad young man alone in an epic wilderness; Josh O’Connor will star.”
Francis has previously teased the project, telling The Film Stage last year: “I’ve always wanted the opportunity to make a really, really f**king scary horror movie. So I’m working on that.”
Asked about his next feature by Metro Weekly, he said in December: “I have written the next one. What can I tell you? It’s about deep intimate human relationships, again. It’s a period piece. But it’s set in the 20th century. And it is a horror film.”
After shooting to fame in God’s Own Country, Josh won a Golden Globe for his portrayal of a young Prince Charles in The Crown. He has since appeared in hit films such as Only You and Emma.
