Joshua Bassett has praised ‘Golden’ singer Harry Styles in a new video interview, calling him “hot” and “charming”, while adding: “I guess this is my coming out video.”
However, fans are confused as to whether the 20-year-old Disney star was being serious or not.
The star of the inexplicably titled High School Musical: The Musical: The Series was speaking to Clevver News via video link when he made the claims yesterday.
“Who doesn’t think harry Styles is cool?”
Joshua said of former One Direction star Harry: “He’s a nice guy who doesn’t say too much, but when he does, it matters, you know?
“He’s cool, he’s just cool. Who doesn’t think Harry Styles is cool? He’s hot, you know? Very charming too. Lots of things.”
The star then adds with a laugh: “I guess this is also my coming out video.”
Just For a Moment singer Joshua is yet to publicly address the ensuing speculation on his sexuality, and social media has thus been divided as to whether he was joking.
“Sorry to break it to you but Joshua bassett is not queer unless he comes out saying he is,” said one fan. “Him saying “maybe it’s me coming out” in that video was just humour. Person with 3 brain cells could’ve picked it up. Idk why yall want him to be queer so bad for all your twt jokes.”
Said another commentator: “First, just because he came out as queer doesn’t mean he came out as specifically gay, so stop trying to invalidate past relationships. Second, unless he says he was joking, it should be taken honestly.”
A third said: “joshua bassett coming out today was p cool i just hope ppl don’t become dismissive of his sexuality if hes bi/pan/smthn besides gay [sic].”

Two things are irritating me about the Joshua Bassett situation.
First, just because he came out as queer doesn’t mean he came out as specifically gay, so stop trying to invalidate past relationships.
Second, unless he says he was joking, it should be taken honestly.

Joshua has been linked to his High School Musical: The Musical: The Series costar Olivia Rodrigo in the past, with their love triangle with actress Sabrina Carpenter reportedly inspiring Olivia’s hit single ‘Drivers License’.
Attitude has approached a representative for Joshua for comment.
Update: In a statement last night, Joshua said on Twitter: “My entire life people have told me my sexuality. People have shamed me for things they know nothing about. I want to say thank you to those of you who stand for love and acceptance.”
“Toxicity, hatred, and negativity say less about the subject, but say for more about those who spew it.
“It’s 2021. We are the generation of love and growth. It’s time we start acting like it.
“Whether you love me, hate me, or damn me to hell, I love you all the same. Love who you are shamelessly. It’s OK to still be figuring out who you are. Life’s too short to let ignorance and hatred win. I choose love.”
