Judge Judy learns about Grindr in new case

By Sam Rigby

Judge Judith Sheindlin heard a case involving Grindr in a recent episode of her series Judge Judy.

Defendant Adam Murphy appeared on the show to respond to allegations that he did not pay back a loan given to him by an older man he met on the app.

Murphy explained: “Um, we met on a, um…social website. Um, it’s actually called Grindr…Grindr, it’s an app. For your phone or your iPad. It’s a social app that tells you where homosexual males are and their proximity. To where you are.”

Judge Judy wasn’t convinced by the defendant’s suggestion that he had met up with the man as he was looking for a friend.

“No, then you go on a website to make friends!” she responded. “You go with college friends! But you went on a particular website. I mean, if I were looking to just make friends, I wouldn’t go on a website that said, you know, it’s just for little old Jewish ladies. I would try to expand my horizons a little bit, do you understand?”

Murphy claimed that the man had acted “like a mentor” to him, but Judge Judy said that he was being dishonest. She accused him of using the man, who she added had been upfront about his feelings from the start.

However, she eventually dismissed the case, despite her contempt for the defendant. She ruled that the plaintiff had never been clear about repayment.
