Katy Perry to star in Broadway adaptation of ‘Clueless’?

Katy Perry is apparently keen to star in the forthcoming Broadway adaptation of Clueless.

The writer-director of the iconic 1995 teen film, Amy Heckerling, has revealed that although the stage musical version of Clueless is in the “really early stages”, Perry has already approached her about taking on the role of high school queen bee Cher Horowitz, originally played by Alicia Silverstone.

“Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death,” Heckerling told Vulture, before acknowledging that Perry’s popstar schedule might make it tricky to commit to the role.

“Maybe Iggy Azalea wants to do it!” Heckerling added, referencing the Aussie rapper’s portrayal of Cher Horowitz in her music video for Fancy, which pays tribute to the film.

Clueless, a re-imagining of Jane Austen’s Emma set in modern-day Beverly Hills, was a big hit with critics and film fans upon its release, and has gone on to gain a sizeable cult following.
