Keiynan Lonsdale releases new love song inspired by ‘Love, Simon’
The song was inspired by the teen film and Disney's 'The Little Mermaid'
Love, Simon star Keiynan Lonsdale has released a new powerful queer anthem.
The Australian actor, who plays a love interest in the teen film, came out to the cast of Love, Simon at the movie’s wrap party last year before coming out publicly as bisexual in an emotional Instagram post last May.
And now the actor has released a queer love anthem titled ‘Kiss The Boy’ with a lyric video featuring same-sex couples kissing.
In an interview with Billboard, Lonsdale revealed he was inspired by Disney’s The Little Mermaid and by a teaser for Love, Simon.
He said: “The teaser for Love, Simon had dropped on YouTube and then for some reason, I don’t know why, the song ‘Kiss The Girl’ from The Little Mermaid popped up on my feed.”
“I was like, ‘Oh, that’s so funny. I wonder f I can do a cover of that song, but change it to about a boy?’ It didn’t work, but I was thinking about the Love, Simon trailer and I was really happy. Eventually, I got the hook, ‘If you wanna kiss the boy/Then you better kiss the boy right now.'”
The star explained that it was the easiest song he’s ever written because it’s based on his own experiences. He said: “I had so much to draw off, with the movie, my own personal life and every relationship I’d been in and other people’s stories that they’d told me.”
‘Kiss The Boy’ will appear on Lonsdale’s upcoming album, which is expected to drop later this year.
