Kelly Clarkson on her gay fans: “I get hit on by the hottest girls”

By Nick Bond

Kelly Clarkson has spoken about the first time she realised the true extent of her lesbian fanbase in a new interview.

Speaking to PrideSource, the one-time American Idol winner – back in the UK charts this week with Heartbeat Song, the lead single from her new album Piece By Piece – said she was surprised to discover her gay female fans even had a name for themselves.

“One girl on tour came up and just introduced herself and was like, ‘I’m a Kezbo,’ and I was like, ‘What?!’ She was like, ‘A Kezbo – your lesbian fans,'” the 32-year-old says.

“And I was like, ‘Wait, there’s enough of you to have a group? That’s amazing! Awesome! Go me!'”

Clarkson took it in good humour when the fan vowed to “bring [her] to the other side,” responding, “All right, well, keep trying!”

The singer is back in the spotlight just eight months after the birth of her first child, daughter River Rose. Asked how she would react if River herself turned out to be gay, Clarkson said, “I just hope she finds love. It took me a while, man … You know, as long as she’s happy, I don’t care either way, and neither does my husband.”

Of course, with a voracious lesbian fanbase comes lesbian rumours. While Clarkson is now married to talent manager Brandon Blackstock, earlier in her career the media speculation about her sexuality reached Sporty Spice levels. She said she’d heard the gossip, but that it never bothered her:

“I mean, I get hit on by the hottest girls ever. Oh, my god, if I were a lesbian, I would be so in luck. But it’s just not my thing.”
