Kevin Bacon leads a ‘conversion therapy’ camp in horror flick They/Them

A chilling trailer for the ‘conversion therapy’ horror flick They/Them has dropped.
Pronounced ‘They Slash Them,’ (a nifty wordplay) the film sees a group of LGBTQ campers arrive at Whistler Camp and are promised a “new sense of freedom” by the end of the week.
At the beginning of the trailer the camp’s owner, Owen Whistler (Kevin Bacon) tells the young campers that “This is a safe space for everyone”.
However, the supposed safety of the space appears to be short-lived.
A synopsis reads: “As the counselors attempt to psychologically break down each of the campers, a mysterious killer starts claiming victims, and they must reclaim their power if they’re going to survive the horrors of the camp.”
Written and directed by Oscar nominee John Logan, the horror is described as an “empowering slasher.”
With the trailer featuring creepy dolls, shadowy pictures, and one too many knives, They/Them looks like there’s a lot going on.
In a statement about the film, Logan said: “They/Them has been germinating within me my whole life.
“I’ve loved horror movies for as long as I can remember, I think because monsters represent ‘the other’ and as a gay kid I felt a powerful sense of kinship with those characters who were different, outlawed, or forbidden,” he continued.
As well as Bacon, They/Them also stars Carrie Preston, Anna Chlumsky, Theo Germaine, Quei Tann, Anna Lore, Monique Kim, Darwin del Fabro, Cooper Koch, and Austin Crute.
The film premieres on Peacock 5 August.
