Kevin Bacon, Theo Germaine to star in LGBTQ Blumhouse horror film about conversion therapy

Kevin Bacon and Theo Germaine are to star in a new LGBTQ horror film for Blumhouse themed around conversion therapy.
Hollow Man actor Bacon will also serve as executive producer on the project, which will be written and directed by Oscar-nominated screenwriter John Logan, who is gay.
According to Deadline, the film will be a ‘LGBTQIA+ empowerment tale set at a gay conversion camp’ with Germaine, of TV shows The Politician and Work In Progress, in the lead role.
The scientifically-debunked practice of conversion therapy involves trying to ‘cure’ a patient of their sexuality and/or gender identity. The UK government has faced backlash this year for its delay in banning it.
The movie is for now untitled – although it is listed on IMDB as Whistler Camp.

Commenting on the news on Twitter this week, Germaine said: ‘I’ve dreamed of getting to work in this genre since I was a kid. This is for 12-year-old me, who was obsessed with horror films, and was the only kid in my school who read @FANGORIA.
“This is also for my late uncle, who collected Friday the 13th merch and also loved horror.”

Logan has received oscar nominations for Best Original Screenplay (2000’s Gladiator and 2004’s The Aviator) and Best Adapted Screenplay (2011’s Hugo).
The Blumhouse production company is known for creating successful horror movies like Get Out, Freaky and the Paranormal Activity and Insidious franchise.
Blumhouse found Jason Blum has previously tweeted of the new project: “We’ve wanted to make a movie with John Logan and he came up with the *perfect* idea.”
