Kristen Stewart calls her new ‘gay Christmas Movie’ Happiest Season a ‘huge exhale’

Kristen Stewart has discussed her envelope-pushing new film Happiest Season, calling it a “gay Christmas movie” and a “huge exhale.”
The Twilight star plays one half of a lesbian couple navigating conservative parents in the new Hulu film, out 27 November.
She stars alongside Mackenzie Davis, who acted in the iconic lesbian-themed Black Mirror episode San Junipero.
“Two girls in a Christmas movie? From a studio like Sony?”
Speaking to The Guardian, Kristen said: “It’s a gay Christmas movie. And I know that’s an annoying thing to label it right off the bat, but, for me, that is extremely attractive, and sounds like… a huge exhale.”

Responding to Davis’ question “has there been no romantic comedy that has queer leads?”, Stewart adds: “That’s probably not true. But, like, two girls in a Christmas movie? From a studio like Sony? Absolutely not.
“I mean, I did not cultivate this experience,” continued the Snow White and the Huntsman actor. “I’m not saying: ‘We’re the fucking first!’ I’m more just praising the people that made this up.”
“They don’t like that you date girls”
Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar UK last year about pressure to define her sexuality while also keeping it a secret for the sake of her career, Kristen said: “Like what, you can’t go outside with who you’re with? You can’t talk about it in an interview?
“I was informed by an old school mentality, which is — you want to preserve your career and your success and your productivity, and there are people in the world who don’t like you, and they don’t like that you date girls, and they don’t like that you don’t identify as a quote unquote ‘lesbian,’ but you also don’t identify as a quote unquote ‘heterosexual’.
“‘And people like to know stuff, so what the f*ck are you?'”
