Kylie Minogue moves to block Kylie Jenner’s ‘Kylie’ trademark application

It’s Kylie vs. Kylie as Kylie Minogue moves to block Kylie Jenner’s attempt to trademark their name.
Jenner applied to trademark ‘Kylie’ in connection with advertising services in August last year, but her Australian namesake has now filed a notice of opposition, arguing that the application would cause confusion and dilute her brand, reports the World Intellectual Property Review.
In an application submitted last Monday (Feb 22), Minogue’s legal representation KDB presented their case to the US Patent and Trademark Office, making some incredible legal digs at “secondary reality television personality” Jenner, who they refer to as a “supporting character” on her family’s reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
They added that the 18-year-old was “active” on social media, where she’s renowned for “photographic exhibitionism”.
Talk about damning with faint praise.
KDB also cited existing trademark registrations for the term ‘Kylie’ that cover entertainment services and music recordings. Minogue already owns trademarks for the terms ‘Kylie Minogue darling’, ‘Lucky – the Kylie Minogue Musical’ and ‘Kylie Minogue’.
It looks like this battle might only just be beginning, however: Just a day after Minogue filed her notice of opposition, Jenner filed another trademark application for the term ‘Kylie’ – this time in entertainment services.
Minogue left fans in no doubt about her fighting intentions yesterday (Feb 28) however, with a pointed reference to the dispute.
“Hello….. My name is KYLIE”, she tweeted to her 2.3 million followers.
Hello….. My name is KYLIE #lightyears

Does this spell the end of Kylie Minogue’s monolithic pop culture presence? Only time will tell…
