Kylie Minogue has revealed she suffered a “nervous breakdown” following her split with British actor and fiancé Joshua Sasse last year.
The ‘Dancing’ singer, 49, says that her breakup with the 30-year-old Galavant star after two years of dating last February left her “broken”.
Minogue, who is gearing up to release 14th studio album Golden in April, told The Sunday Times: “I just wanted to stop. I knew I needed to heal. My physical system was compromised.
“I think it’s called a nervous breakdown.”
The Australian pop icon added: “I just thought, ‘No, no, no, no’. How do you get over it? You just do.”
As a couple, Minogue and Sasse had repeatedly called for marriage equality in Australia through Sasse’s ‘Say I Do Down Under’ campaign, and had pledged not to wed until same-sex marriage was legalised in Minogue’s home country.
Minogue said that though her engagement had ended, she hadn’t given up hope of finding her happy-ever-after.
“I went through all the motions of ‘This is what people do’,” she said.
“And it wasn’t the right union. I’ve never been that woman, that girl who dreams of walking down the aisle. You dust yourself off and you go through that period of ‘Never again. Not going to do it’.
“I love romance and I love to feel in love or be in love.”
