Lady Gaga to sing National Anthem at the Super Bowl
The performance bookings for Lady Gaga keep rolling in – just yesterday the 29-year-old was confirmed as a guest star at the 2016 Grammys, where she is to perform an “experimental” tribute to the late David Bowie.
But before we get along to that, the American Super Bowl will be the next feather in the pop icon’s proverbial cap, as the Denver Broncos take on the Carolina Panthers in Santa Clara on Sunday, reports USA Today.
While Gaga won’t be sharing the halftime entertainment spotlight alongside Beyoncé and Coldplay; instead grabbing the attention of the entire stadium solo as she sings the US National Anthem before an estimated crowd of 75,000, and millions of people across the globe.
The NFL confirmed on Tuesday (February 2) the star would sing ‘The Star Spangled Banner’ with Marlee Matlin will perform the anthem in American Sign Language alongside Gaga’s vocal performance.
Past stars that have performed the national anthem for the Super Bowl include Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Billy Joel and Cher.
During last year’s Superbowl 49, Idina Menzel belted out the song before the game.
It’s really been an epic start to the year for Lady Gaga, first scooping a Golden Globe Award for her performance on American Horror Story: Hotel, while also weeks away from learning if she will receive a BRIT Award and Academy Award for ‘Til It Happens To You’.
