Laverne Cox: ‘Bruce Jenner’s interview will save lives’
By Josh Haggis
Laverne Cox has argued that Bruce Jenner’s announcement that he is transitioning will save lives.
Jenner made the announcement in a tell-all interview with Diane Sawyer that aired over the weekend in the US. The interview, which was well received by Jenner’s family and the trans community, was watched by almost 17 million people.
“A lot of people tuned in expecting to see a spectacle, and instead they saw a profoundly nuanced, complicated, beautiful human being,” Cox told MSNBC.
“I thought ABC handled it really beautifully. I had spoken to Bruce several months back, and the same person I had spoken to on the phone, who really just loves their children so much and wants their family to be happy, was the person I saw on television last night.”
“…what Bruce really wants to come out of this is that people’s lives will be saved, and that people will be helped by this.”
Meanwhile, Kim Kardashians’ ex-husband Kris Humphries has apologised after he was criticised for a tweet that appeared to condemn Jenner’s transition – find out more here.
