Laverne Cox is to become the world’s first transgender star to get their own waxwork at Madame Tussauds.
The franchise’s San Francisco museum has announced that a waxwork of Orange Is the New Black actress will join its lineup later this month, Entertainment Weekly reports.
Cox, who also became the first trans woman to appear on the cover of Time last year, said of the accolade: “I am so deeply honoured to have been asked to be part of the Madame Tussauds legacy. I hope that this will be a source of inspiration for everyone who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible.”
“When I think about being who I am, a black trans woman from a working class background raised in Mobile, Alabama, this honor feels even more improbable and extraordinary. I hope that this will be a source of inspiration for everyone who encounters it to believe that their dreams matter and are possible.”
Madame Tussauds added that the 31 year-old star’s inclusion in its hall of fame was in keeping with the organisation’s aim to showcase the “significant and revolutionary figures in our world today”.
Cox’s waxwork can be seen by the public from June 26, and will be unveiled to coincide with San Francisco’s LGBT Pride weekend.
Excitingly she’ll also be back on UK screens at the end of this week, with the release of season three of Orange is the New Black to Netflix this Friday (June 12).
