Lawrence Chaney on why she’s ‘100%’ backing Symone to win US Drag Race

Lawrence Chaney has explained why she’s “100%” backing Symone to win RuPaul’s Drag Race this weekend.
“She’s funny, she’s clever, she’s gorgeous – there’s so much depth,” the Drag Race UK winner told Attitude backstage at Student Pride 2021 in London this week.
The star is due to appear on Student Pride’s Cheers, Queers programme with Lorraine Kelly this Sunday 25 April at 7pm (sign up to watch here), after appearing on the mental health panel discussion chaired by Attitude editor Cliff Joannou earlier this week.
“There’s a message behind Symone’s drag”
“No one does drag like Symone,” Lawrence told us, adding she’s “spoken a bit” over direct message.
“I think one of the best things about drag artists and what I like about doing drag is, not only being a glamorous clown in a wig, I love that your drag is storytelling,” Lawrence said. “A book, but all visual.
“What Symone does is gorgeous and glamourous. At face value, ‘wow, isn’t she stunning!’ But there’s a message behind it. Now more than ever, that message needs to be heard.”
The Drag Race US final will see Symone go head-to-head with Gottmik, Kandy Muse and Rose this Friday 23 April 2021; the final airs the following day in the UK on Netflix.
“I’ve spoken to Rosé too, my fellow Scottish sister,” added Lawrence. “Everyone keeps being like, ‘why are you not backing Rosé?’ Rosé’s a great drag queen, and you can still support people even if you don’t want them to win the crown! Everyone in that top four is chef’s kiss.”
Lawrence and fellow Drag Race UK finalists Bimini and Tayce last month appeared on the cover of Attitude’s Tea Time digital special in association with Taimi.
