By Sam Rigby
LeAnn Rimes has spoken out about country music’s stance on gay artists.
Country music’s conservative roots mean it has traditionally been seen as less accepting of homosexuality than other genres, but Rimes told GLAAD that she hopes the industry is “moving forward and not back”.
The 32-year-old was spoke out in support of two gay country singers, Ty Herndon and Billy Gilman, after they both came out on the same day back in November – read more here.
Rimes said: “I knew this was all about to happen and [Herndon] actually texted me right before it happened. I’m so proud of him. Ty waited for a very long time in his life and Billy actually has a chance at having a full life as an out, gay man.”
“People should be able to love who they love – it’s as simple as that,” she concluded.
Earlier this year, the Can’t Fight The Moonlight singer said that she and her husband Eddie Cibrian are a “gay man’s wet dream” – find out more here.
