Lena Dunham slams Kanye West’s ‘sickening’ new music video
Lena Dunham isn’t your average spokeswoman.
A voice for women and for the millennials, when not writing books the creator and star of HBO’s Girls regularly takes to Twitter, Instagram and Facebook to speaking out about a variety of causes.
Fairly opinionated on the matter, she feels a strong pull towards the LGBT community, previously has vowing on national TV not to marry before US legalised gay marriage everywhere, and even receiving an award for her support to the gay community.
In fact, she admits she was disappointed when she realised she wasn’t gay.
Now the avowed feminist has taken aim at footage from Kanye West’s ‘Famous’ music video. An homage to Vincent Desiderio’s Sleep painting, it shows off 11-minutes worth of famous flesh, as nude waxwork of some of today’s biggest stars lie sprawled on a bed.
Donald Trump, Anna Wintour, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Bill Cosby and Taylor Swift all feature, and as a member of Taylor’s infamous ‘squad’, Dunham isn’t all too pleased with it.
Well actually, that’s an understatement.
In a Facebook post that has since gone viral, Dunham slammed the visual as sexist, describing seeing famous women “reduced to a pair of waxy breasts made by some special effects guy in the Valley” as “sickening”.
The 29-year-old continued: “It makes me feel sad and unsafe and worried for the teenage girls who watch this and may not understand that grainy roving camera as the stuff of snuff films.”
She concluded: “It feels informed and inspired by the aspects of our culture that make women feel unsafe even in their own beds, in their own bodies.”
