In the most heart-warming news of the week, Lil Nas X appears rather moved by Dolly Parton praising his (epic) cover of classic song ‘Jolene’.

Oh, the low notes!

The ‘Industry Baby’ sang the throwback track on BBC Radio One’s Live Lounge last week, to mark the release of his critically-acclaimed debut Montero.

Listen to the cover of the song – originally released in 1974 – below.

“I love him anyway”

Sharing a picture of her and Nas and revealing her thoughts on the cover, Dolly sad on Instagram: “I was so excited when someone told me that Lil Nas X had done my song ‘Jolene’.

“I had to find it and listen to it immediately…and it’s really, really good. Of course, I love him anyway. I was surprised and I’m honored and flattered.

“I hope he does good for both of us. Thank you @lilnasx.”

The 22-year-old’s Twitter reaction to Dolly’s sentiments? Simply “holy s**t.”

While the star, who is gay, is known for his attitude-laden blockbuster hits, this isn’t the first time he’s showed his vulnerable side on a song.

As we said of ‘Sun Goes Down’ in our recent review of Montero: “Then there’s the heartbreakingly vulnerable ‘Sun Goes Down’: this writer’s favourite Montero track. On it, over dreamy, lullaby-like melodies, Nas revisits the pain of homophobic bullying he suffered as a teen.”
