Lil Nas X says he would never have come out if he wasn’t ‘pushed by the universe’.
The ‘Old Town Road’ rapper – whose real name is Montero Hill – is currently dominating the charts and became the first ever openly gay country and hip-hop artist with the longest-running Number One in Billboard Charts Hot 100 history.
Earlier this year, after performing at Glastonbury with Billy Ray Cyrus, Lil Nas X came out via social media – later confirming to the BBC that he is gay.
And while speaking to Times Magazine, the rapper opened up about coming out and confessed he would never have done it if he wasn’t pushed by the universe.
He said: “I know the people who listen to [country music] the most, and they’re not accepting of homosexuality.
“In June, I’m seeing Pride flags everywhere and seeing couples holding hands – little stuff like that.
“I never would have [come out] if I wasn’t in a way pushed by the universe.”
