Lily Allen exits ‘Bridget Jones’ musical: ‘I’m out of the picture’

Lily Allen has confirmed that she is no longer involved in the planned musical adaptation of Bridget Jones’s Diary.
The singer had written music and lyrics for the stage version of Helen Fielding’s novel, with Sheridan Smith tipped to star in the lead role.
However, Allen told The Sun that the author has decided to go back to the drawing board with the project.
She said: “I wrote some great music for it but Helen Fielding wants to go back and write a whole new story. It’s been a long-term project and I was happy to do my bit but now I’m out of the picture.”
Despite exiting Fielding’s project, the singer said that her music may still make it to the West End.
“I’ve had two companies come to me and say, ‘Have you got ideas?’ They want me to find a movie that I think could adapt well and I do have some ideas that I think would work. So my work may make it to the West End yet,” she explained.
Allen’s comeback album Sheezus topped the UK’s Official Albums Chart earlier this year. Watch the music video for her recent single URL Badman here.
