Linda Perry: ‘Beyonce’s talent isn’t in her songwriting’

Songwriter Linda Perry has suggested that Beyonce’s talent doesn’t lie in songwriting.
Former 4 Non Blondes frontwoman Perry – who married girlfriend Sara Gilbert earlier this year – has forged a career as an in-demand hit-maker over the last decade, penning smashes like Christina Aguilera’s Beautiful and Pink’s Get The Party Started
During a recent question and answer session on Reddit, Perry said that some popstars demand a songwriting credit because they believe that without their name, the song wouldn’t become popular. See below.
Linda, how do you feel about Beyonce changing one word on a song and getting writing credit. Does that bother you as a songwriter?
Perry: Well that’s not songwriting but some of these artists believe if it wasn’t for them your song would never get out there, so they take a cut just because they are who they are. But everyone knows the real truth even Beyonce. She is talented but in a completely different way.
This isn’t the first time Beyonce has been accused of not being deserving of a songwriting credit. In 2008, the singer told Marie Claire that she wrote her R&B breakup bop Irreplaceable – but writer Ne-Yo later refuted the claim, saying that the Drunk In Love singer only wrote the background harmonies.
