Listen: JoJo is officially back with THREE new singles
By Will Stroude
After years spent in musical purgatory and battling her old record label in court, early noughties pop princess JoJo is officially back – with not one, not two, but three brand new singles.
Understandably keen to make up for lost time since the release of her last studio album – 2006’s The High Road – almost a decade ago, the now 24-year-old singer has launched her third studio album campaign with the world’s first ‘tringle’ – aka three singles, all released concurrently.
Thankfully they’re everything you want from the former Leave (Get Out) singer and more, with mid-tempo pop-R&B numbers Say Love and Save My Soul showing off those Mariah-esque pipes and When Love Hurts – for which she’ll be filming a video later this month – checking the ‘stone cold banger’ box very nicely.
JoJo scored two UK Top 40 Albums with her eponymous 2004 debut LP and 2006’s The High Road, which spawned hit singles Leave (Get Out) and Too Little Too Late respectively.
Her long-awaited third studio album – originally entitled Jumping Trains – was eventually scrapped by her record label Blackground, but as she’d not officially been dropped she was unable to sign a new contract elsewhere or release any new music.
After winning her long-running legal battle to be released from Blackground back in 2013, JoJo signed a new deal with Atlantic Records at the start of 2014, and had been working on her third studio album since.
Pharrell Williams, MNEK, Sam Smith and Mac Miller have all rumoured to have contributed the the record, which is slated for release in 2016.
