Listen: Robyn’s back with new “gay anthem” ‘Love is Free’
By Will Stroude
After what’s seemed like an eternity, Robyn is back with brand new single Love is Free.
The new track from The Queen of Scandi-pop and La Bagatelle Magique is a house-channeling 90s homage, and Robyn’s first new material since last year’s Do It Again EP with Norwegian production duo Röyksopp.
The track was co-produced by the Dancing on My Own singer’s collaborator Christian Falk, who died in July last year after battling pancreatic cancer.
Love is Free will feature on an upcoming five-track mini-album. Her last solo outing came in 2010 with three-part LP Body Talk.
Speaking to FACT Magazine about the new single, she said:”It could be, love is free like ‘free love’. It could [be] a gay anthem, it could be [about how] you can’t control life. It can be ‘screw you I’m gonna stand on my own two feet’.
“For me, it’s more like a definition of this weird thing that’s really hard to define, which is the unknown. The things you can’t control. To me, that’s what it is.”
We celebrated the Swedish songstress’s 36th birthday last week by (somewhat controversially) ranking her 10 best ever tracks – click here to take a look.
