Listen to Charli XCX’s new single ‘Break the Rules’
Charli XCX has premiered her latest single Break the Rules.
The 22-year-old singer, who DJed at the Attitude HOT 100 party in July, has recently cracked the Top Ten in both the US and the UK with Boom Clap, a song taken from the soundtrack to hit summer film The Fault In Our Stars.
Her new track Break The Rules finds Charli in an altogether rowdier mood, as she chants “I don’t wanna go to school, I just wanna break the rules” over a thumping bassline and club-ready chorus.
Discussing the song with BuzzFeed, Charli said: “[It’s] inspired by a lot of the things I was listening to whilst in Sweden at the end of last year. I spent about a month making a punk record and covering songs by Swedish punk bands like Snuffed By The Yakuza and stuff. This song was written when I came out of the other side of that punk phase and translated it into something more pop. Obviously, it’s about not giving a fuck.”

Meanwhile, Charli has also announced that her second album is titled Sucker and will be released on October 21. Her debut album, True Romance, came out last year and earned critical acclaim and a cult fanbase for the Hertfordshire-born singer.
Charli said earlier this month that if she was Queen Of Everything she would reverse all the anti-gay laws in the world – read more here.
