Little Mix announce new album ‘LM5’ as they reiterate promise to fly the flag for LGBT fans

Little Mix have revealed that their eagerly-anticpated fifth studio album will be released next month.
Fresh off taking home the Honorary Gay Award at the Virgin Holidays Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar last Thursday (11 October), Jesy, Jade, Leigh-Anne and Perrie have announced that the record, entitled LM5, will drop on 16 November.
The record will serve as the follow-up to 2016’s Glory Day, which stands alone as the biggest selling album by a female group this millennium in the UK, and spawned four UK Top 10 singles in the form of ‘Shout Out to My Ex’, ‘Touch’, ‘Power’ and ‘Reggaetón Lento (Remix)’ with Latin American boyband CNCO.
With an all-star list of producers and writers including Ed Sheeran, Jess Glynne, MNEK and Timberland, LM5 only looks set to add to the Little Mix hit count over the coming weeks.
In a message to fans posted to Twitter on Monday (15 October), the band wrote: “We love how you’ve named each of our eras over the years. So we’ve decided to call our next album…#LM5.
“We’ve worked so hard on this, we are so proud & can honestly say this is our favourite album to date.”
The announcement of LM5 follows the release of the group’s latest single ‘Woman Like Me’ featuring Nicki Minaj, which currently sits at number four on the UK iTunes chart after debuting last Friday (12 October).
Since winning The X Factor in 2011, Little Mix have sold more than 45 million records worldwide and notched up a total of four UK Bumber One singles, four platinum-selling albums and nine platinum selling singles, surpassing a record previously held by the Spice Girls.
The group have consistently used their platform as the world’s biggest girlband to speak out in support of LGBT+ equality, and at the Attitude Awards last week members Jade Thirlwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock gave an impassioned speech about supporting the community as they collected their Honorary Gay Award.
“I personally feel I owe a lot to the community”, Jade told the audience at London’s Roundhouse. “When I first moved to London I was very lonely, I didn’t have many friends, and it was my gay friends who took me under their wing.
“They really helped me to embrace myself and celebrate who I am. I owe a lot to the gay community and I think we all do as a group.
The 25-year-old Stonewall ambassador continued: “If we’re going to benefit from the LGBT community and have a fanbase that are buying into our music, I think it’s our duty to educate ourselves and use our platform to raise awareness and create music that helps our fans feel like being exactly who they are is okay.
“There needs to be more artists and more allies out there in the industry to raise that flag.
“Basically, if you stick by us, we will always, always stick by you.”
