Little Mix include nod to same-sex relationships in ‘Shout Out to My Ex’ X Factor performance

Little Mix made a triumphant return to the X Factor stage last night (October 17) to perform their brand new single, ‘Shout Out To My Ex’.
The new song, taken from their upcoming album, has been described as a Zayn Malik diss-track, with one or two less than favourable lyrics seemingly inspired by lead singer Perrie’s breakup with the former One Direction singer.
During the performance, back up dancers wore t-shirts emblazoned with crossed-out boys’ names, representing terrible ex-boyfriends from across the world.
But it’s not just straight women who have to deal with terrible exes, and the group used their performance to extend the breakup anthem to girls of all sexual identities, with some female back up dancers donning t-shirts with names such as ‘Rachel’ and ‘Megan’.
A number of people who tuned into Sunday’s performance took to twitter to praise the girls for their LGBT inclusive performance, with one fan describing them as “gay icons,” while Great British Bake Off star Ruby Tandoh said, “God bless Little Mix.”

The Little Mix girls regularly use their platform to support the LGBT community, with their hit song ‘Secret Love Song’, from their third album Get Weird, often being dedicated to the girls’ LGBT fans – and even performed as a particularly moving tribute to to victims of the Orlando shootings during a concert earlier this year.
‘Shout Out to my Ex’ is the first single to be lifted from Little Mix’s fourth studio album, Glory Days, which is set for released on November 18.
