London’s iconic LGBTQ nightclub Heaven has won special protected status.

The home of G-A-Y opened its doors back in 1979 under Charing Cross and has seen the likes of Miley Cyrus, Little Mix, Madonna and even the cast of Frozen 2 all take to the stage to perform in front of adoring fans.

Last year, the venue saw their first ever marriage take place between RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne and his partner.

Now, Heaven has been named an Asset of Community Value by Westminster City Council meaning the local community will be able to have a say in the future of the venue if it is ever up for sale.

This is refreshing news following the decline of LGBTQ venues across the city including the likes of XXL – which closed its doors last September.
