Lucky Charms marks LGBT Pride Month with rainbow mallow

Lucky Charms breakfast cereal has found a sweet way to celebrate LGBT Pride Month, which takes place in the US each June.
The cereal’s makers posted a picture of a special Lucky Charms rainbow marshmallow on Facebook yesterday (June 6), accompanied by the caption: “Being brave enough to be yourself. #LuckytoBe Original.”
The picture is part of the cereal brand’s “#LuckyToBe” campaign, which aims to “celebrate individuality, diversity and inclusiveness”.
A Lucky Charms spokesperson explained: “We are honouring everything that makes each of us special and adds colour to our world – just like the marshmallow charms in our cereal. We are celebrating everyone who is proud to live life on their own terms and love every second of it.”
The company that makes Lucky charms, General Mills, has shown support for the LGBT community in the past, speaking out against a proposed ban on same-sex marriage in Minnesota in 2012. “We value diversity. We value inclusion. We always have—and we always will,” the company said in a statement to the press at the time.
Lucky Charms isn’t the only well-known US brand to mark LGBT Pride Month – US retailer Target has launched a gay pride T-shirt line featuring designs by Gwen Stefani.
