Lukas Graham: ‘If a guy says he’s gay, it makes him less manly in men’s eyes’

By Attitude Magazine

Lukas Graham are currently dominating the airwaves with their wistful debut single ‘7 Years’, and in the new issue of Attitude – available to download and in shops now – the Danish pop band discuss the paternal relationship that the inspired the worldwide smash, as well as sexuality and masculinity in the music industry.

“In a male-dominated industry, it’s very hard for men to express their sexuality, because when a girl says ‘I’m a lesbian’ it makes her more manly in men’s eyes, but if a guy says ‘I’m gay’ it makes him less manly in men’s eyes”, lead singer Lukas Graham Forchhammer tells us. “Some of the most manly people I know are gay.”

“Do you remember Patrick who did our lights?” he asks his bandmates. “You’d never know he was gay.”

He continues: “I accidentally said something on stage about gays and looser wrists and afterwards Patrick walked up to me and said in his growling, deep voice: ‘Hey, Lukas, do you think I have loose wrists?'”
