In 2018, being a pop diva and showing love for the gays pretty much go hand in hand, but Madonna reminded everyone of her unique connection with the LGBT community as she marked New York Pride.
As thousands took the the streets of Manhatten for the 49th annual New York City LGBT Pride March Sunday (June 26), the Queen of Pop shared a heartfelt note on Instagram paying tribute to all the gay people who have shaped her life and career.
Madge, who spoke out passionately for gay equality long beforeit was popular to do so, shared a video of herself singing along to Clean Bandit and Demi Lovato’s ‘Solo’ as she admittied she “bows down” to gay people who have taught her to “stand tall in the face of adversity.”
The 59-year-old star , who is currently in Portugal working on music for the follow-up to 2015’s Rebel Heart, wrote: “Until I can Share MY music……. I’m sending Love from Lisbon! missing NY and the fierceness of the LGBT community that gave me life from the moment I landed there!!”
“For Me, Pride Month is every month! This 👑 Bows down to every Gay Boy that taught me a. New dance, how to dress, how to drag, how to slay, To stand tall in the face of adversity, to not give up hope, to own my inner bitch and to love my flaws! #loveislove #gratitude #pride”
The theme of this year’s New York Pride parade was ‘Defiantly Different’ – a message organisers said had been inspired by President Donald Trump’s treatment of minotory groups.
Madonna wasn’t the only gay icon to show her support of the event – Lady Gaga was also in attendance, while Kylie Minogue closed the festivities with a show-stopping performance at NYC’s Pride Island festival.
