Madonna to film Rebel Heart show in Sydney

Madonna will film her Rebel Heart Tour for DVD during her shows at Sydney’s Olympic Park this weekend.

Documenting her return to Australia for the first time in 23 years, Madonna today announced that she will film her concerts at the Sydney Olympic Park NSW on March 19 and 20 for an official release. These are the final shows of her Rebel Heart world tour which has seen the Queen of Pop perform over 80 shows, in over 20 countries, across 7 months.

Danny B. Tull and Nathan Rissman, both of whom have worked extensively with Madonna on her feature films and tour movies, will direct the live video which her representatives say will be part of a larger project to be released at a later date.

While Both the Blond Ambition Tour of 1990 and the Reinvention Tour of 2004 were the subjects of popular documentaries, there has been no indication thus far that her current tour is being considered for such treatment – though we can hope.

Until this month, Madonna hadn’t performed down under since the Girlie Show Tour in 1993, where her show at the Sydney Cricket Ground on that tour was also recorded for the official DVD.

The final leg of the Rebel Heart tour has been marked by Madonna’s very public attempts to reconcile with her 15 year old son Rocco, who is staying with his father Guy Richie in London, despite U.S. law requiring him to be in the full time custody of his mother.

She has posted emotional tributes to Rocco on social media, dedicated songs to him on stage, and even appeared to shed tears for him during a very rare intimate show called ‘Tears of a Clown’ which she performed in Melbourne last week. She denied having been drunk on stage, contrary to media reports.

Madonna has four dates left in Australia, playing Brisbane on March 16 and 17, and Sydney on March 19 and 20.
