Dame Maggie Smith and Imelda Staunton go head-to-head in a new featurette in the Downton Abbey Movie.
It’s common knowledge that one of the best things about Julian Fellowes’ hit TV series is the Dowager Countess Violet Crawley’s one liners and burns.
And now, with the film heading to UK cinemas next month, we have a featurette with newcomer Lady Maud Bagshaw – played by the amazing Imelda Staunton – and it appears the old feud between the two characters is still rife.
In the clip, Lady Maud says: “How clever of you to find me” with Violet responding: “Well not really, I lived here 40 years… I assume this is your maid?”
Maud then says: “Is there something you want” to which Violet returns – with a frosty tone – “Just to see you’re comfortable and confirm our little chat for later?”
“I live my own life Violet. I’m not what I was, my father is gone, my husband is gone. I see no reason not to do what I want,” Maud replies.
“I think Lady Merton is right, we’ll have it out once and for all but now I must go to her majesty.”
Safe to say, we cannot wait for more burns from the Dowager Countess now! Watch the frosty exchange below:
The plot follows Robert Crawley, the Earl of Grantham (Bonneville) who receives a letter informing him of an impending visit by King George V and Queen Mary for a royal luncheon, parade and dinner.
Downton Abbey arrives in UK cinemas from September 13, 2019.
