The release date for the forthcoming Magic Mike sequel has been confirmed.

Magic Mike XXL will hit cinemas on July 3, 2015, Deadline reports.

The film is due to enter production later this year, with the principal cast expected to return. However, contracts have reportedly yet to be signed.

The first film’s director, Steven Soderbergh, won’t take charge on the second film, instead serving as a producer.

Greg Jacobs is set to replace him in the director’s chair. Jacobs previously directed Emily Blunt’s 2007 thriller Windchill.

Channing Tatum is currently working on the script, and teased MTV recently, saying: “This one will be a road trip movie. Without giving a lot away, we don’t wanna make it a really serious, slice-of-life movie. We want to have reality in it, but we don’t want to make it some dark drama.

“There was some darkness in the last one that I think surprised people and shocked people.”
