Mamma Mia 2 unveils brand new trailer – but where is Meryl Streep?
It's not looking good for Donna.

January seems to be stretching on forever, but the sight and sound of a brand new trailer for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is sure to put a spring in your step.
The sequel to 2008’s feel-good ABBA-inspired musical is set to reuinte the original cast an introduce some brand new faces as it explores the ’70s back story of Meryl Streep’s character Donna – though the legendary actress continues to be mysteriously absent in this latest trailer.
While three-time Oscar winner Streep has been given star billing and appears in the latest promotional poster, speculation is rife that Donna has been killed off – and other characters referring to her only in the past tense hasn’t exactly inspired fans with confidence that the musical matriarch is still with us.
Of course, there’s still plenty to be excited about, with the previously teased appearance of Cher as Donna’s mother and a trio of hot young things to enjoy in the form of Jeremy Irvine (War Horse), Josh Dylan (Allied) and Hugh Skinner (Kill Your Friends), who’ll be playing younger versions of Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Stellan Skarsgård’s characters.
The original Mamma Mia! became a huge commercial success when it was released a decade ago, amassing box office takings of over $600 million (£460m) from a $52 million (£39.9m) budget.
However, it appears not all of its stars were initially sold on the idea of a sequel, with Amanda Seyfried revealing last year that she’d been hesistant to signup for round two.
“Truthfully, when they were like, ‘We’re making Mamma Mia 2,’ I was like, ‘That’s going to be terrible,'” the Mean Girls actress told Entertainment Weekly.
“But it’s not! It’s amazing.”
Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is set ot hit UK cinemas on July 20, 2018. Watch the brand new trailer below:
